Week 4 – Activity – Plaster Casting

So… this week was very fun and interesting. This week in Art 110, we had the opportunity to plaster cast a body part (or anything). This activity had to be by far the best and most fun activity we have had so far.

Anyway.. a couple of my Art 110 friends and I were did the plaster casting together and it was a blast. The day started off with Dominic Erich and I at Home Depot. It was kind of a bonding experience for us as we got to hang out and get to know each other a little bit more. We got to see parts of Long Beach/ Signal Hill on the way to the Home Depot (five miles away from CSULB 😦 ) It was fun nonetheless. Searching through Home Depot for our necessary supplies was a pretty fun adventure and after that, we ate at a nearby Costco food court. Chicken bake and a berry smoothie for me. Yum 🙂 . Anyway, up next was to head back to school to wait a while until we could all meet up to go to the beach.

Once we got to the beach with the guys (Connor, Steven, Dominic, and two other friends) we began to start our plaster casting. We all had to think of what we wanted to do and we got really creative with this. Steven did a thumbs up sign, Dominic did a hang loose sign, Connor did a fist, and I stuck with a plain and easy foot design. We took a while to figure out how to have our limbs implanted without the sand crumbling into the holes we set. After we finished each of our molds, it was time to start stirring the plaster. We were still confused about the two parts plaster and one parts water, but we quickly figured it out. Next step: waiting.

Waiting around was a little hard at first but we all had a bonding experience from it. We got fairly close to the water where we set our molds so we decided to make walls to protect the water from destroying our projects. We also got really creative and played frisbee with a bucket lid x). Overall it was a lot of fun and it was the complete opposite of what I thought it would be. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention we also made a beautiful penis with the extra plaster mix we had and as you can see in my face above, I thought it was hilarious. But hey, it’s art! Haha.

After we were done we headed to In-N-Out to grab some quick dinner. Overall, this activity was really fun and I hope we have just as much fun or more in the future activities that we do.
